Kurt and Puck ran down the corridors as quickly as they could, while following the Maurauders Map copy Kurt had. By the time they reached the dungeons, Kurt and Puck walked as silently as they could, so they wouldn’t…
“Kurt, I’m not sure if we’ll even need the room of requirement. You’re good with History of Magic, right?” Puck asked hopefully.
“Yeah, it’s my best class. Why?”
“Do you remember that guy, Sirius Black, who escaped on a hippogriff? He was Harry Potter’s godfather.”
Kurt’s eyes popped in astonishment. “Puck! That’s brilliant! We can’t apparate or disapparate within the grounds, but if we could get Brittany somewhere safe…”
“Yeah, but what place is safe?” Puck responded, suddenly less hopeful. Even if they sent her to his or Kurt’s house, the Ministry could still track the spell, and track her location if she had to use a spell to protect herself. There were too many variables.
“Guys… I don’t know where I can even go…” Brittany cried into her hands and covered her face with her hair.
“Brittany, this will get worked out. Worst case scenario, this wasn’t a crime of malice — this was a misunderstanding. Plenty of people will testify for you. Trust me,” Kurt offered as solace.
“Kurt’s right,” Jesse said as he looked up. “This isn’t the end of everything, and there have got to be students here whose parents work in the ministry. Bulstrode’s reputation will give us some leverage.”
The question on everyone’s mind lingered in the air, a looming, palpable issue: how much leverage, and how much time?
“But i still think, how could she kill him? Brittany is two sweet and kind to even come close to producing a successful killing spell. There has to be a away to to get him awake! there has to be. there has to be….” he looked back down at the lifeless body. “someone get me the ingredients to a revive potion. use accio or something. maybe…maybe that will work” he sounded hopeful. as hopeful as he could be at the moment.
“I didn’t mean death…I meant pain. He was hurting you. I couldn’t let him hurt you…I didn’t know what that spell did. I didn’t.” Brittany began to sob harder. “Please don’t let me go to jail.”
